Visual designer UI and online graphics
Job #28
Are you a designer who is a committed progressive and as obsessive about production as you are about design?
Would you love to use your talents to work for real progressive change? We are looking for a visual designer for
CREDO Action, CREDO Mobile's political campaign team. CREDO runs one of the most influential online progressive
advocacy programs in the US. Using state-of-the-art online advocacy techniques, CREDO takes a multi-issue approach
to progressive political advocacy -- with a strong focus on women's rights, the environment, food security and
electoral accountability among other issues.
Responsibilities
This full-time position in CREDO's office in San Francisco entails an exciting mix of visual design/branding
for CREDO's political campaigns plus lots of HTML/CSS production for email, web pages and Facebook. The work
is often fast-paced as the team rolls out petitions, calling campaigns and real-world activism aimed at decision makers.
The designer will design, execute and prepare for web, all graphics and branding that accompany CREDO Action's
campaigns. Graphics are output at multiple sizes and resolutions for various media, including Facebook ads.
The designer will code and test various CREDO Action web pages and email templates and set them up for A/B testing.
Skills and Experience
Required:
- Activist experience. If you are not someone who attends protests, signs petitions or volunteers for campaigns
you will have a hard time relating to our 2.5 million members who eat, sleep and breathe progressive politics.
- A strong interest in progressive politics and in particular the Netroots. To keep up with the many issues we
address every day you need to be a regular consumer of progressive blogs and news.
- Minimum 2 years experience in visual design for the web (images and coding). Your portfolio must demonstrate
good skills with typography and a high level of attention to detail.
- Excellent written communication skills are key to success, as well as being a good listener and being able to
express yourself clearly and succinctly in verbal communications.
- Ability to embrace the office. Even though we are online organizers, you have to show up at an office every day
and sit in a bullpen with the rest of the team. To make this work you must view collaboration as a path to delivering a better product. CREDO's campaigns are a team effort.
- Solid experience with design software tools (Photoshop, Illustrator).
- An understanding of the latest best practices for web design (HTML/CSS).
- The ability to easily code cross-platform compatible emails.
Nice to have:
- Experience with randomized controlled testing as it applies to online advocacy.
- Experience designing for the mobile web (media query, client/device detection techniques).
- Experience with JQuery and other JavaScript libraries.
- Experience coding for Facebook Open Graph.
How to Apply
Please submit a cover letter, resume and a link to your online portfolio to becky@credoaction.com.
